The homeowners, Dave and Annette Martin, had a vision to incorporate several functional spaces into their very large empty basement. The challenge was to create a large comfortable seating area facing a fireplace and TV, and designated spaces for billiards, a pub zone and an L-shaped bar, all with plenty of seating. To get the project going, Renee Dolan drew up floor plans and put together color, fabric and furniture suggestions.
The inspiration was the beautiful stonework of the fireplace, bar and wine wall. The style is a little rustic, with pops of color, fun, and sophistication. Since lots of seating was important, Renee’s solution included a large inviting leather sectional, two very large ottomans for lounging or extra seats, two sets of fun swivel chairs, and numerous bar stools. A cozy wine tasting area is nestled off to one side of the bar.
“We were also able to incorporate the Martin’s existing traditional leather sofa in the pool table area. We flanked the sofa with two black rustic wood tables and lighting. Across the room we added an upbeat gunmetal and glass pub table.”
The Martins wanted a lively recreational space, with colorful walls to display their favorite movie art, and because they frequently entertain large groups of friends and family, the space needed to function for a crowd while providing several zones for various activities and conversation. Even though there is plenty of seating in this basement recreational area, when you enter the space, it feels cozy and inviting.
