If you haven’t shopped for a new mattress in the last five years or so, you will be amazed at the number of options available today. You may be familiar with some terms like plush, firm, and memory foam, but there are also a lot of new technologies on the market. Our certified mattress specialists help people like you find the right mattress every day! These are some guidelines we use to pair our guests with the perfect mattress.
BODY MAPPING
To begin the process, our Body Mapping Technology provides a detailed image of your body’s pressure points and creates your personal Comfort Map. The Comfort Map assists us in narrowing down the array of choices to a few mattresses that offer the proper level of comfort and support ideal for your body shape and size. How does it work?
- A Certified Mattress Specialist will guide you through a brief process using Body Mapping technology and gather information on your preferred sleeping positions, comfort preferences, current sleep environment, and other considerations.
- Your personal Comfort Map image will illustrate your body’s pressure distribution and recommend the best level of comfort and support for your body. Our specialists will then determine what type of mattress will accommodate your specific needs.
- Then, we’ll guide you through our calm, quiet sleep gallery, where you can experience several of the mattresses that align with your Comfort Map image, sleep preferences, and budget.
FOR THOSE WHO LIKE A BOUNCY, SUPPORTIVE FEELING: INNERSPRING MATTRESS
If you’re picturing a threadbare mattress with metal springs digging into your back while you sleep, don't worry! Today’s advanced innerspring technologies utilize the support of either traditional innersprings or individually pocketed innersprings to provide bouncy, lasting support. But some mattresses also have layers of comfort so you can rest easily.
Try a pillow-top mattress if you like a soft or plush feel. If you like it firmer, ask about a Eurotop option. Innerspring mattresses are great if you sleep on your back or stomach and like a firm support.
FOR THOSE WHO WAKE UP FEELING ACHY AND SORE: MEMORY FOAM OR SPECIALTY FOAM MATTRESS
Memory foam or latex foam mattresses are designed to adapt to the body's natural curves. This alleviates pain on pressure points such as the hips, shoulders, and knees. The Venus Williams collection is perfect for this situation!
These mattresses are especially great for side sleepers, resulting in a better night's sleep. Foam mattresses are also available with different levels of firmness depending on the density of the foam. Another reason why it’s important to try out different options in person to find your best fit! And if you’re worried about overheating, make sure to ask your specialist about special cooling foams and gels so you don’t wake up in the middle of the night sweating!
FOR THOSE WHO WAKE UP EVERY TIME THEIR PARTNER TOSSES AND TURNS: INDIVIDUALLY POCKETED INNERSPRING, HYBRID OR MEMORY FOAM
Instead of dealing with the frustration of your partner changing sleeping position or waking up earlier than you… just get the right mattress! Individually pocketed innerspring mattresses and memory foam mattresses reduce motion transfer so you won’t feel a thing, no matter how much your partner moves.
A hybrid mattress, which combines individually wrapped coils with layers of memory foam, can also be a good option because it combines the two technologies. The best of both worlds!
FOR THOSE WHO SNORE OR SUFFER FROM SLEEP APNEA: AN ADJUSTABLE MATTRESS
This option really refers to an adjustable base, but it’s important to ensure that the mattress you get is compatible with an adjustable base. You often see people who like to read in bed or watch TV using adjustable bases (and those are very good reasons to upgrade to an adjustable lifestyle!), but it’s also beneficial if you snore or have sleep apnea.
An adjustable base will allow you to elevate your head slightly while you sleep to reduce pressure on your air passages. This is especially helpful if you sleep on your back. The extra elevation will make breathing easier and help reduce chronic snoring and sleep apnea!
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHEN IT’S TIME FOR A NEW MATTRESS?
The short answer is that you should replace your mattress every 7-10 years. If you notice that your mattress is sagging in specific spots or you can feel the support layers through the comfort layers, it is time for an update. However, it may also be time if you notice that you aren’t sleeping through the night like you used to or wake up feeling achy and groggy. After all, your body is unique and the right mattress can help you stay comfortable and sleep well.
